Speech homework, minus the homework

The sound practice your child asks to do.

Say & Play wraps articulation practice inside twelve real games. Your child says the word, you tap how it went, and the game moves — every single turn earned out loud.

You are the judge — the app never says the sound for them.

A turn takes ten seconds

1

Pick the sound

23 sounds and 24 blends, at the beginning, middle or end of a word — then choose word, phrase or sentence level.

2

Your child says it

The word appears with the target letters in coral. Gabby the crocodile cheers; she never says the sound for them.

3

You tap how it went

Correct, Retry or Skip. One good production is one turn in the game — so practice count and play stay locked together.

Twelve ways to play. Every turn has to be said.

Roll, pop, fish, race or blast off — the game only moves when a word is produced. No taps for free.

Also in the box: Connect Four, Tic Tac Toe, Kerplunk and rapid drill cards. See all twelve ›

Two activities, not one

Producing a sound is half the work. When a child cannot yet hear the difference between two sounds, practising the production alone gets you nowhere.

Speaking

They say the word, you score it

23 sounds and 24 blends across 992 words, at word, phrase or sentence level. The default activity, and the one your therapist most likely sent you home with.

Listening

You say the word, they pick the picture

Minimal-pair discrimination: two pictures, one word said aloud by you. 14 contrast sets and 94 pairs, grouped by the process behind the error — fronting, stopping, gliding, voicing, cluster reduction and final consonant deletion.

Written to therapy rules, not app-store rules

Say & Play is built with a practising speech pathologist, and the awkward clinical decisions were made her way — even when the flashier option was easier to build.

The app never says the target sound. No text-to-speech anywhere — a synthetic model of a sound a child is still learning does more harm than good. The grown-up is the model.

Phrases and sentences are position-pure. Practising /s/ at the beginning? No word in that sentence carries /s/ anywhere else — 992 words checked phonetically, not by spelling.

Every target word is underlined. At phrase and sentence level your child can see exactly which words to aim at, instead of guessing from the page.

Carryover ideas after every session. A specific thing to try before bedtime, so the sound travels out of the app and into real talk.

At home

Parents running practice between appointments

You do not need to know any phonetics. Your therapist tells you the sound; you pick it once, and the app handles the word list, the level and the counting. Your only job is to listen and tap.

Drive it from your own device: a profile per child on your caseload, queues that mix sounds and positions, rapid drill when you want trials rather than turns, and a session summary you can paste straight into your notes.

No accounts, no data

Profiles, streaks and history live on the device. Nothing about your child is uploaded, because nothing is collected.

Works offline

Install it from the browser and it runs in waiting rooms, on planes and in the car — no app store, no signal needed.

No ads, ever

Nothing flashes for attention mid-session. The only thing competing for your child is the game they chose.
